South Pest Central Hospital appoints Dr. Botond Lakatos as new head of Infectious Diseases
Dr. Botond Lakatos has taken over as the head of the Infectious Diseases Department at the South Pest Central Hospital, effective September 1. He succeeds Dr. János Szlávik, who has held leadership roles at the institution since 2000 and has been part of the hospital since 1986.
Dr. Szlávik will remain at the hospital to continue his professional medical work despite stepping down from his administrative duties.
Dr. Lakatos, a graduate of Semmelweis University, brings extensive international experience from work in Switzerland and Spain, and holds a diploma in tropical medicine. He is a PhD in infectiology, a habilitated doctor, and an instructor at Semmelweis University. Additionally, he has served as the president of the Hungarian Society of Infectology and Clinical Microbiology since 2021. His expertise includes HIV, tropical diseases, vaccinology, and zoonoses. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he led the working group responsible for developing national therapeutic strategies.
