South Sinai floods cause casualties and road disruptions in Nuweiba
Heavy rainfall and flash floods in the Nuweiba region and valleys north of the Gulf of Aqaba have resulted in human casualties and infrastructure challenges in South Sinai, Egypt. In the Wadi Watir area, a cement mixer carrying three people was swept away by floodwaters, leading to one death and one injury. A search is currently underway for a third person who remains missing.
Governor Ismail Mohamed Kamal conducted field inspections to monitor the situation and ensure the safety of vital infrastructure. While most affected roads have been reopened to traffic, authorities are continuing work to remove silt and debris left by the water flows.
Protection structures in Nuweiba and Taba have successfully harvested approximately 10.6 million cubic meters of floodwater. These facilities are designed to mitigate risks to residential areas and roads while supporting local development by utilizing captured water for the benefit of local populations and Bedouin communities.
