South Sudan and Uganda leaders seek joint border security action

Leaders from South Sudan and Uganda have called for coordinated action to address security challenges and land disputes along their shared border. During a cross-border meeting in Pogee, South Sudan, officials discussed the presence of illegal firearms in border areas such as Agoro, Aswa, and Maleso, which authorities warn could threaten resident safety and peaceful coexistence.

The discussions also addressed land administration issues, specifically regarding areas designated as “no-man’s land.” South Sudanese State Minister for Roads and Bridges, Elis John Ahaji, emphasized the importance of resolving disagreements through dialogue and mutual understanding rather than force, noting that aggressive approaches to development projects could strain relations between the two nations.

Additionally, the leaders explored a proposed road project aimed at improving connectivity and economic integration between the neighboring countries.
