South Sudan NSS graduates 500 personnel to secure Upper Nile oilfields
The South Sudan National Security Service (NSS) has graduated approximately 500 new personnel in Paloch, located within the Upper Nile State. The graduation ceremony, held on Sunday, October 18, 2026, took place at an oilfield site to emphasize the mission of protecting energy infrastructure and maintaining regional stability.
Led by Brigadier General Waal Deng Mading, the security commander at the Paloch oilfield, the event was also attended by the Acting Commissioner of Melut County, Adwai Akiech Yuot. The new recruits were drawn from various counties across Upper Nile State, marking the seventh batch of NSS graduates and the second to graduate at the county level in Melut.
Officials emphasized that the training comes at a critical time as the country prepares for upcoming general elections. The graduates have been tasked with securing the electoral process, protecting civilians and property, and fostering cooperation between security forces and local communities. The protection of oilfields remains a strategic priority for the state, as the petroleum sector is a primary source of national revenue.
