South Sudan President Kiir orders expedited election preparations

President Salva Kiir Mayardit has directed the National Elections Commission (NEC) to accelerate preparations for South Sudan’s general elections, scheduled for December 22. The directive followed a briefing from NEC Chairperson Prof. Abednego Akok Kachuol regarding assessment missions conducted across the country’s ten states and three administrative areas.

Prof. Akok stated that voter registration is expected to commence shortly, serving as a vital step toward the upcoming polls. To support the process, the NEC has launched a voter and civic education campaign in Juba to sensitize the public and encourage participation. President Kiir emphasized the necessity of a credible, free, and fair electoral process that meets the expectations of the South Sudanese people.
