South Sudan VP's Kenya trip canceled due to lack of presidential clearance

South Sudan Vice President Rebecca Nyandeng de Mabior was unable to travel to Kenya on Monday due to a lack of required presidential authorization. Her office clarified that the trip was canceled because the necessary clearance from the Office of the President had not been granted in time, rather than being blocked by security personnel at Juba International Airport as had been suggested by social media reports.

Nyandeng was scheduled to attend official engagements in Nairobi, including a public lecture at Murang'a University of Technology. The travel request had reportedly been submitted to the presidency on August 13.

The cancellation follows recent public remarks made by the Vice President regarding government accountability and oversight within President Salva Kiir's administration.
