South Sulawesi financial sector sees strong growth and investor surge

The Financial Services Authority (OJK) for South Sulawesi and West Sulawesi reported that bank assets in the region grew 5.99% year‑on‑year, while third‑party deposits (DPK) rose 5.71% and credit disbursements increased 5.27% up to mid‑2026. Productive credit retained a 52% share, with notable credit growth in agriculture (about 11%), fisheries (5.69%) and other productive sectors. Makassar remained the main hub for loan distribution, accounting for roughly 53% of regional credit.

In parallel, OJK data showed that the number of Single Investor Identification (SID) numbers in South Sulawesi reached 766,125, a 79.28% year‑on‑year rise. Mutual funds dominated new investor activity, representing 81.35% of the total, with 536,779 SID holders investing in these funds. The surge reflects the impact of financial literacy and inclusion programs encouraging residents to move beyond traditional savings into modern investment products.
