South Sulawesi leaders urge DPR RI to support industry and MSMEs

South Sulawesi Governor Andi Sudirman Sulaiman and Makassar Mayor Munafri Arifuddin met with Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) to discuss regional development strategies.

Governor Sulaiman emphasized South Sulawesi’s role as a strategic hub for Eastern Indonesia, advocating for increased central government support for industry, tourism, and connectivity. He specifically highlighted the need for policies to assist the region’s approximately 3 million registered MSMEs (UMKM) in expanding their market reach and capacity.

Mayor Munafri Arifuddin proposed incentives for raw materials to support local industrial processing, noting that Makassar’s economic growth of 7.04 percent is driven by its geographic position as a trade center. He also called for infrastructure improvements to support the creative economy, arts, and tourism sectors.
