South Sulawesi targets 2 million workers for social security coverage

The South Sulawesi provincial government has set a target to protect 2,048,719 workers through employment social security programs by 2026. This target represents approximately 49.08 percent of the province's total workforce, excluding civil servants, military, and police personnel.

During the 2026 Jamsostek Awards in Makassar, Acting Regional Secretary Andi Winarno Eka Putra emphasized the importance of expanding protection for vulnerable workers. He noted that while Presidential Instruction Number 2 of 2021 aims to optimize social security programs, implementation must be further strengthened to ensure broader coverage.

In a related development, PT Bank Sulselbar reported 100 percent coverage for its employees through BPJS Ketenagakerjaan. The bank provides coverage for both permanent and contract staff from their first day of work, including accident, death, old-age, and pension insurance. The institution also implements programs to protect surrounding workers and micro-business credit recipients.
