Indonesia SAR operations conclude after ship fire and multiple drownings
Multiple search and rescue operations across Indonesia have concluded following several maritime and river accidents.
In the Kabaena waters, a fire on the KM Legenda Nusantara 99 resulted in two fatalities, including a purser and a pumpman, while 11 others were successfully evacuated. One survivor, the captain, required intensive medical treatment for chemical poisoning.
In North Sulawesi, the KM Nyong Fati experienced engine failure in the Bangka Strait. Six passengers from Kinabuhutan Village were safely evacuated by the Manado SAR team after the vessel drifted with the waves.
Several drowning incidents were reported in various rivers. In Indragiri Hulu, two siblings, aged 8 and 11, were found deceased in the Kuantan River after being separated during a search. In Palembang, two students were found dead in the Musi River near the 7 Ulu Pier. Additionally, a 20-year-old man was recovered from the Ogan River in Ogan Ilir after being swept away by the current.
