South Surrey golf course seeks funds to relocate bald eagle nest

Nico Wynd Golf Course in South Surrey held a fundraising meeting to address the relocation of a bald eagle nest. The nest is currently located in a grand fir tree that is experiencing rot at its base, posing an insurance risk to nearby homes due to the potential for the tree to fall during a windstorm.

Experts Myles Lamont and David Hancock, along with Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke, discussed the importance of the local habitat. Lamont noted that the area near the Nicomekl and Serpentine rivers and Boundary Bay contains one of the highest populations of breeding and wintering bald eagles in their species range.

The proposed plan involves installing a tall pole and a new nest nearby. The relocation is scheduled to take place this fall once the eagles have left the area for the winter.
