South Surrey paddleboard race and Pitt Meadows Canada Day celebration attract large crowds

The Surrey Hospitals Foundation’s annual "Champion of the Crescent" paddleboard relay is scheduled for July 23 at Blackie Spit in South Surrey. The four‑person team race supports child and youth mental‑health programs, with lifeguards on duty and equipment provided. Registration closes July 8, and the event runs from noon to 3 p.m., featuring an orientation and opening ceremonies.

On Canada Day, July 1, Spirit Square in Pitt Meadows hosted a family‑focused celebration with live music, stilt walking, classic car displays, inflatable activities and food. Hundreds of residents attended, including families participating in craft stations and local band Almost Famous performing. Organisers and attendees highlighted the event’s role in community pride and giving children a safe environment to enjoy Canadian festivities.
