South Tyrol Allocates €100 Million to Modernize Hospitality Schools
The autonomous province of South Tyrol announced a €100 million investment to upgrade its three main hospitality training institutions – the Hellenstainer, Ritz and Kaiserhof schools – as part of a strategy to combat a growing skilled‑labour shortage in the tourism sector. Regional councilor Christian Bianchi said the funds are earmarked for new construction, extensive renovations and modern facilities, with project completions targeted between 2029 and 2030.
In neighboring Austria, three alumni of the Zillertal tourism schools in Zell am Ziller have risen to senior management positions at the retail chain SPAR. Martina Bichler, Verena Moser and Lisa Braunegger progressed from traineeships after their Matura to roles such as deputy managing director, sales director and head of personnel, illustrating the schools’ role as a stepping‑stone for careers beyond tourism.
Both stories highlight how specialized vocational education is being leveraged to address labour needs and provide career pathways in the broader hospitality and retail industries.
