South Tyrol emerges as Italy’s premier gourmet destination

South Tyrol has evolved into Italy’s region with the highest density of Michelin stars, transitioning from traditional rustic cuisine to a modern gourmet destination. Chef Norbert Niederkofler is a central figure in this culinary shift. After his success at St. Hubertus, he established his Moessmer atelier in Bruneck, where he continues his ‘Cook the Mountain’ philosophy and maintains three Michelin stars.

Other notable culinary figures in the region include Mauro Siega and Gerhard Wieser, who operates the Castel fine dining restaurant in Dorf Tirol, known for its technical precision and views of Merano.
