South Tyrol increases childminder wages with government funding

The South Tyrol provincial government has approved a wage increase for childminders and childfathers to improve the attractiveness of the profession. The base hourly rate will rise from 10.20 to 11.60 euros, a change that includes a 14th-month salary and a ten percent inflation adjustment.

To ensure that families do not face higher costs, the provincial government will fully cover the additional expenses, which are estimated at approximately 1.7 million euros. This measure is intended to secure the availability of childcare services for the more than 1,000 children currently under their care. The new regulations are set to apply retroactively from January 1, 2026, provided that provider organizations pass the full increase on to their employees.
