South Tyrol leads Italy in average bank balances per capita

South Tyrol has the highest average bank balance per inhabitant in Italy, with approximately 30,400 euros held in checking accounts. According to a study by the consumer protection association Adusbef, which utilized data from the Italian central bank, this figure significantly exceeds other provinces, including Milan, which follows with 27,900 euros. In contrast, Crotone recorded the lowest average at 9,679 euros.

While the province shows high liquidity, the data is tempered by high living costs. Trentino-South Tyrol also has the highest average monthly household consumption expenditures in Italy, totaling 3,584 euros compared to the national average of 2,755 euros. Housing, water, electricity, and gas account for 42 percent of these expenditures.

Additionally, the cost of maintaining checking accounts in Italy has risen by 23 percent over the last decade. Annual costs increased from an average of 82.20 euros to 101.10 euros, with variable costs such as transfers and withdrawals seeing a 34.2 percent increase.
