South Wales fire services request military aid for wildfires
Fire service chiefs in South Wales have requested military reinforcements through the Military Aid to Civil Authorities (MACA) protocol to combat ongoing wildfires. The request aims to secure additional logistical and defensive tactical support as wildfire activity persists across the region.
The escalation follows a prolonged period of hot weather and high operational demand. Firefighters and support teams have been working continuously to protect homes, businesses, infrastructure, and the environment.
In addition to the request for military aid, the service has already activated mutual aid arrangements with National Resilience and other fire and rescue services across the United Kingdom. ACFO Matt Jones stated that the priority is to protect communities and ensure the response can be sustained for as long as conditions require.
