South West England roadworks: A38 and A39 improvements announced
Major road improvement projects are scheduled for key routes in South West England.
On the A39 near Williton, Somerset Council will undertake drainage improvements and resurfacing between September 28 and October 30. The project aims to mitigate severe flooding risks. To minimize disruption, the council will use two-way temporary traffic lights on weekdays and keep the road fully open during weekends. Some evening or overnight closures will be necessary.
In Devon, National Highways is launching a £10 million enhancement programme on the A38. The works include refurbishing the Whitecleave and Mardle viaducts, improving drainage between Ivybridge and Lee Mill, and resurfacing the eastbound carriageway. The viaduct refurbishment is expected to run from September through January. During certain periods, such as between September 2 and October 24, the A38 will face full overnight closures from 8pm to 6am.
