South West State requests Kenya arrest former President Laftagareen

South West State Security Minister Osman Isaaq Mohamed has called on the Kenyan government to arrest former state President Abdiasis Hassan Mohamed Laftagareen and extradite him to Somalia via Interpol.

Speaking regarding recent unrest in Baidoa, Mohamed accused Laftagareen of being responsible for a series of attacks and bombings in the city. The minister further alleged that forces loyal to the former president have links to Al-Shabaab and have contributed to increased insecurity. He stated that any fighters aligned with Laftagareen who surrender will be treated under the same procedures as Al-Shabaab members who defect.

Laftagareen is currently based in Nairobi following his departure from Baidoa. The request follows heightened political and security tensions, including recent clashes between government troops and fighters loyal to the former president who attempted to seize control of parts of the city. These allegations against Laftagareen and his militia have not been independently verified.
