South West Water to repair Race Hill leak amid regional hosepipe ban

South West Water has committed to repairing a leak at the top of Race Hill following months of spillage and local frustration. The leak occurred during a period of drought conditions that prompted a temporary hosepipe ban across several regions.

The ban, which took effect at 12:01 am on Saturday, August 8, applies to customers in Devon, Cornwall, parts of Dorset and Somerset, and the Isles of Scilly. Under the restrictions, residents are prohibited from using hosepipes for non-essential purposes, such as watering gardens, washing cars, or cleaning patios and driveways.

A spokesperson for South West Water stated that the leak serves a private supply, which required investigations to establish responsibility before repairs could begin. The company has now prioritized a free repair, which is expected to be completed within the next few days.
