Southampton and Portsmouth prepare for Championship rivalry clash

Southampton and Portsmouth are set to face each other in a highly anticipated Championship rivalry match. The fixture follows a period of significant developments for Southampton, including the resolution of the ‘Spygate’ saga. Manager Tonda Eckert is cleared to return to the touchline after receiving a suspended six-week ban related to the incident.

Despite a four-point deduction stemming from the Spygate investigation, Southampton currently sits two points ahead of Portsmouth in the league standings. A victory in this upcoming match could potentially move the Saints into the play-off positions. The team also received a boost with the return of Daniel Peretz and Cyle Larin to training following recent international break injuries.

In transfer news, reports indicate that Southampton’s previous pursuit of midfielder Issa Doumbia has become more costly. After Southampton failed to secure the player in summer 2025, Doumbia moved to Sporting CP for a reported €23 million, following a successful stint at Venezia.
