Southeast Asian forces seize and destroy thousands of cannabis plants in Indonesia and Philippines

Indonesian military troops seized about 5,000 cannabis plants from two farms in Highland Papua’s Yahukimo district, located in Kima and Air Garam villages, on July 13. The operation, carried out by the Habema task force after a tip‑off, also recovered traditional weapons and triggered an investigation with local police to identify the growers.

In the Philippines, police destroyed more than 100,000 fully grown marijuana plants, valued at roughly P20 million, in a July 12 raid that spanned the Sadanga area of Mountain Province and the Tinglayan municipality of Kalinga. The operation involved multiple police units and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and was presented as part of an ongoing anti‑drug campaign in the Cordillera region.
