Southeast Wisconsin Placed Under Extended Extreme Heat Warning

The National Weather Service upgraded an Extreme Heat Watch to a full Extreme Heat Warning for southeast Wisconsin, covering Milwaukee, Waukesha, Kenosha, Racine, Fond du Lac, Walworth, Dodge, Jefferson, Ozaukee and Sheboygan counties. The warning began at noon on Monday, June 29 and remains in effect through Tuesday evening, with heat‑index values projected between 95 °F and 110 °F each day through Friday.

Forecasters warned that prolonged high temperatures and humidity could trigger heat‑related illnesses, especially among older adults, young children, outdoor workers and those without air‑conditioning. The NWS advised residents to stay hydrated, remain in cooled indoor spaces when possible, limit outdoor activity during peak heat, check on vulnerable neighbors, and never leave pets or children in parked vehicles. The heat dome over the Ohio River Valley is expected to keep southerly winds transporting hot, moist air from the Gulf of Mexico into the region, maintaining oppressive nighttime lows in the low‑70s.

Local officials also cautioned that dangerous lake‑water conditions could develop in Sheboygan and Ozaukee counties overnight, with strong waves and currents posing additional hazards.
