Southern Alps prepare for 2026-2027 winter season and 2030 Olympics
The Southern Alps are preparing for the 2026-2027 winter season, driven by momentum from the upcoming 2030 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Le Briançonnais region, including Montgenèvre and Serre Chevalier, is set to host freestyle skiing, snowboarding, and freeride events. This Olympic prospect is expected to catalyze significant regional development, with an estimated economic impact exceeding 6.3 billion euros and infrastructure improvements such as the modernization of the Alpine train line.
In the Portes du Soleil domain, which spans 12 stations across France and Switzerland, the 2026-2027 season will feature 600 km of slopes across 400 km². The interconnected ski area includes 307 runs and 208 lifts, serving stations such as Avoriaz, Morzine, and Champéry. The region continues to offer diverse terrain ranging from green beginner slopes to black runs, alongside specialized zones for snowparks and boardercross.
