Southern Angami Youth Organisation demands Phesama road restoration

The Southern Angami Youth Organisation (SAYO) has called on the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to immediately begin restoration work on a road in Phesama village damaged by a landslide.

The affected route is a critical lifeline for Southern Angami villages and serves as a primary link between Nagaland and the neighboring state of Manipur. The ongoing disruption has hindered the movement of essential goods and services and caused significant inconvenience to commuters.

During a site visit on September 9, SAYO representatives noted that no restoration efforts were underway despite the prolonged closure. Local groups, including the Phesama Village Council and Phesama Youth Organisation (PYO), raised concerns regarding a lack of coordination between government authorities, NHIDCL, and village representatives. Additionally, the PYO warned that the current temporary bypass is hazardous due to its steep, rocky terrain, which becomes particularly dangerous for the thousands of vehicles using it daily during heavy rainfall.
