Southern Australian growers see mixed results from spring rainfall
Spring rainfall across Victoria, South Australia, and southern New South Wales has provided a significant moisture boost to crops, though it has created mixed outcomes for southern growers.
While many farmers are seeing positive developments, particularly with barley crops, some regions are experiencing the downside of excessive moisture. Ryan Milgate of the Victorian Farmers Federation reported waterlogging issues in north-central Victoria, as well as in the Wimmera and Mallee regions. Some growers in low-lying areas are reportedly seeking drier weather to prevent crop damage.
In specific areas like Carron, growers have noted that while some lentil paddocks have become too wet, the overall outlook for cereals remains strong, with barley being a notable standout.
