Southern Brazil experiences intense frost and sub-zero temperatures

A polar air mass has brought intense cold and frost to Southern Brazil, particularly affecting the state of Santa Catarina. On Monday, August 24, temperatures dropped significantly in the mountainous regions, with Bom Jardim da Serra recording a minimum of -9.1°C. Other areas such as São Joaquim and Urupema also saw temperatures near -6°C, resulting in widespread frost.

While the extreme cold is expected to be temporary, meteorologists from the Civil Defense indicate a shift in weather patterns later in the week. From Wednesday, instability is expected to return, bringing increased humidity and the possibility of isolated storms. Temperatures in some regions of Santa Catarina may rise to between 25°C and 30°C during the afternoons before a new cold front arrives on Friday.

In Mozambique, the weather forecast indicates partly cloudy skies with the possibility of local fog or mist across various provinces, including Niassa, Cabo Delgado, and Nampula. Coastal areas may experience occasional wind gusts, while maximum temperatures are expected to reach 32°C in Tete and 29°C in Maputo and Beira.
