Southern Brazil faces severe storms and property damage

Severe weather, including heavy rain, hail, and strong winds, has caused significant damage across southern and southeastern Brazil. In Rio Grande do Sul, storms have damaged over 1,900 properties since August 28, resulting in at least two deaths, seven injuries, and 70 displaced persons.

In Santa Catarina, the number of municipalities declaring a state of emergency has risen to nine. The state is under a red alert from Inmet due to the risk of severe storms, with potential rainfall exceeding 100 mm per day and wind gusts surpassing 100 km/h. In Florianópolis, authorities have distributed tarps to approximately 4,000 families to provide temporary roof coverage following hail damage.

Meteorologists predict that an extratropical cyclone will continue to influence weather patterns, bringing instability, potential new storms, and a drop in temperatures across the South, Southeast, and Central-West regions.
