Brazil retail expansion accelerates as Iguatemi posts profit rise

Patteo Urupema Shopping in Mogi das Cruzes announced the arrival of McDonald’s, FlyNow Academia, Mundo Elétrica, HiKeki and Eco Skateshop, expanding its 10,000 sqm of leasable area to host more than 100 stores.

Iguatemi reported a recurring net profit of R$133.8 million for the second quarter of 2026, a 22.1 % year‑on‑year increase, with total revenue of R$396 million and occupancy reaching 96.9 %.

Super Godoy Smart Supermercados in Adamantina opened dozens of job vacancies across sales, cleaning, logistics and other store functions.

Doce Encanto Sorveteria launched its first Florianópolis outlet in the Mercadão de Coqueiros, a 200 sqm shop offering a wide range of ice‑cream products, including sugar‑free, lactose‑free and gluten‑free options.

Itajaí Shopping added four new concepts—Milk Moo, Filomena, Luzzoo and Senhora Farinha—and confirmed the return of Burger King, with further brand openings planned.

Grupo Ítalo inaugurated a concept supermarket in Curitiba’s Barigui district, a R$50 million investment that created about 300 direct jobs and features 8,300 sqm of built‑up area.

Iguatemi also disclosed a strategic portfolio reduction, cutting its own gross leasable area by 11.7 % while focusing on higher‑yield assets, which lifted sales per square metre and EBITDA.

Ilhota in Santa Catarina began construction of the Dona Lola Outlet, a 10,000 sqm boulevard‑style outlet centre with 130 units, projected to generate over 400 jobs and backed by a R$30 million investment.
