Southern California Edison to issue $72 climate credit to customers

Southern California Edison (SCE) is providing a $72 climate credit to millions of residential customers to help offset high electricity costs during extreme summer heat. The credit will be applied automatically to bills in two $35 installments during August and September 2026.

The credit is part of a California program requiring large greenhouse gas emitters to purchase carbon pollution allowances. To assist residents during peak demand months, the California Public Utilities Commission adjusted the payment schedule so the credits coincide with the summer season when air conditioning use is highest.

In addition to the climate credit, SCE reported that electricity rates have decreased by an average of 4.3% since December 2025, with further reductions expected later this year. The company projects that future rate updates will remain at or below local inflation levels through 2030.
