Southern California faces extreme heat warnings
A prolonged October heat wave is impacting Southern California, with extreme heat warnings in effect for Los Angeles, Orange, and Coachella counties. Downtown Los Angeles recently recorded four consecutive days of triple-digit temperatures, marking the longest such streak for the month of October. Hollywood Burbank Airport also set a new record high of 101 degrees.
In the Coachella Valley, temperatures are expected to reach between 104 and 108 degrees through Thursday, which is approximately 10 to 15 degrees above seasonal averages. High pressure is forecast to weaken by Friday, leading to a significant cooldown over the weekend. Forecasters anticipate temperatures dropping into the 80s or 90s by early next week.
While most areas remain dry, moisture from Hurricane Rachel may bring a slight chance of light showers to the region by Monday, though the exact track and rainfall potential remain uncertain.
