Southern California prepares for El Niño storm season

Southern California authorities are preparing for the upcoming El Niño storm season, which is expected to bring heavy rainfall, flooding, and potential power outages to the region.

In Los Angeles County, the Department of Animal Care and Control (DACC) is urging pet owners to prepare emergency “go bags.” Recommended supplies include food, water, veterinary records, medications, and leashes. DACC Director Marcia Mayeda emphasized that proactive planning, such as ensuring pets are microchipped, is essential for safety during rapid weather changes.

Orange County has launched a dedicated emergency-response website to provide residents and businesses with timely news and links to county resources. Additionally, OC Public Works has released guidance on preparing homes and businesses for potential floods and traveling safely during wet weather conditions.
