Southern China floods force relocations and halt transport services

Heavy rainfall across southern China’s Guangdong and Guangxi provinces sparked flooding that prompted the state flood control headquarters to raise the emergency response to Level III. More than 13,000 residents were relocated in Guangdong alone as authorities warned of mountain floods and urban waterlogging.

Transport operations were heavily affected: Shenzhen airport delayed over 30 departing flights, railway services in Guangxi ran at reduced speed with some routes suspended, and two passenger rail lines to Hainan were halted. The National Meteorological Centre forecast continued torrential rain through the region, with up to 350 mm expected in parts of the Pearl River Delta and the Guangxi coast.
