Southern Methodist University cancels CAIR youth leadership event
Southern Methodist University (SMU) has canceled an upcoming youth leadership symposium organized by the North Texas chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). The event, titled “Unapologetically Muslim: Youth in Action,” was scheduled for September 19 and intended to provide leadership training and a visit to City Hall for high school and college students.
An SMU spokesperson stated that the decision to cancel the event was made because the university determined that hosting the symposium was “inconsistent with our mission and related University policies,” given the current designation of the organizer by the State of Texas. Texas Governor Greg Abbott has designated CAIR and the Muslim Brotherhood as terrorist organizations.
