Southern Norway heat wave fuels summer tourism boom

Meteorologists forecast temperatures up to 30 °C across Southern and Eastern Norway, describing the conditions as a possible Norwegian heat wave after a prolonged period of extreme heat in much of Europe. The Norwegian Meteorological Institute expects the hottest days around the Oslofjord area, with drifts in Drammen and surrounding regions possibly exceeding the 30 °C mark.

At the same time, Norway’s tourism sector reports a strong summer performance. Hotel occupancy in Bergen reached 83 % in June, up about four percentage points from the previous year, while nationwide hotel rooms are about 75 % full. International visitors from France, the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada continue to be drawn by Norway’s fjords, mountains and outdoor activities, despite cooler, rain‑laden weather in some areas. Hotel operators expect the trend to continue as the country attracts more tourists seeking a mild climate and scenic experiences.
