Southern Ontario faces heavy rain and flooding from severe storms

Severe storms and heavy rainfall are impacting Southern Ontario, with Environment Canada warning of 30 to 50 millimetres of rain across the Greater Toronto Area. Some regions have already recorded up to 25 millimetres, with additional thunderstorms potentially adding another 20 to 30 millimetres in localized areas.

The weather has caused significant infrastructure and transportation disruptions. At the Ashbridges Bay water treatment plant, heavy downpours triggered a bypass, though officials stated all wastewater is being treated according to regulations. Toronto Pearson airport reported flight diversions and ground delays, alongside leaks in Terminals 1 and 3.

In the community, the Toronto Transit Commission issued warnings regarding bus line detours due to flooding. Peel Regional Police also reported major flooding blocking several intersections in Mississauga. While the severe weather threat is considered low, officials remain concerned about localized flooding in low-lying areas and along commuter routes.
