Southern Railway expands services to manage Onam festival travel rush

Onam festival Vande Bharat Express Southern Railway special trains passenger capacity

Southern Railway has announced several measures to manage the surge in passenger traffic during the Onam festival. To increase capacity on the popular Bengaluru-Ernakulam route, the Vande Bharat Express will expand from eight coaches to 16 starting August 17.

Additionally, special train services have been introduced to connect Karnataka and Tamil Nadu with Kerala. A special service will run between Hubballi and Kottayam via Salem and Erode, departing Hubballi on August 25. Weekly special trains will also operate between Chennai Central and Kollam from August 12 through early September.

These adjustments aim to provide more seating options and ease the pressure on regular rail services as travelers return to their hometowns for the festive period.
