Southern Region police charge over 200 impaired drivers

During a three-day police enforcement initiative known as Operation RAID (Remove All Impaired Drivers), more than 200 drivers in the Southern Region of New South Wales were charged with driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs.

In the Southern Region specifically, 189 individuals were charged with drugged driving and 30 were charged with drink-driving following 27,357 breath tests and 1,071 drug tests. The operation, which ran from September 3 to September 6, also recorded 23 major crashes and 596 speeding charges in the region.

Acting Police Minister Paul Scully emphasized that there is “no excuse for driving impaired,” noting the danger such actions pose to the community. Assistant Commissioner David Driver reported that statewide, the operation identified 212 drivers exceeding legal blood-alcohol limits and 774 testing positive for drugs at roadside tests.
