Southern Saskatchewan heat wave to persist with poor air quality

The province of Saskatchewan has issued heat warnings for its southern region that are expected to remain in effect through next weekend. Temperatures are forecast to reach daytime highs of 32 °C (90 °F) with overnight lows around 16 °C (61 °F), and humidex values are projected to hit 38.

Air quality has deteriorated as smoke from wildfires burning in British Columbia has drifted into southwestern and southeastern Saskatchewan. Environment Canada warns that the smoke can cause eye, nose and throat irritation, headaches, cough and more severe respiratory problems, especially for people with asthma, heart disease, the elderly, children, pregnant individuals and outdoor workers.

Authorities advise residents to limit time outdoors, keep windows and doors closed, use high‑efficiency air filters or portable cleaners indoors, and wear properly fitted N95‑type respirators if exposure cannot be avoided.
