Southern Thailand observes Sat Duen Sip tradition

Buddhist practitioners across Southern Thailand, including Krabi, gathered to observe the Sat Duen Sip tradition, also known as 'Wan Song Ta Yai'. This annual merit-making festival is held to honor and dedicate merit to deceased ancestors and relatives.

According to local beliefs, the period from the 1st to the 15th day of the waning moon in the 10th lunar month is when spirits are permitted to visit the human realm. The festivities include the preparation of traditional snacks such as Khanom La, Khanom Phong, Khanom Kong, and Khanom Ba.

A notable highlight of the celebration is the 'Jad' procession, which features elaborately arranged food offerings and symbolic representations of 'Preta' (hungry ghosts). The tradition serves to reinforce values of gratitude, community unity, and the preservation of Southern Thai cultural identity.
