Southland District Council to fund Milford Sound toilet upgrades

The Southland District Council has approved the use of $1 million in windfall funds from the sale of its two percent shareholding in Milford Sound Tourism Limited to upgrade public toilets. The funds will be directed toward renewing and upgrading infrastructure along the main tourist route leading to Milford Sound.

In addition to supporting visitor infrastructure, a portion of the money will be used to repay existing public toilet loans to reduce future interest costs for ratepayers. Mayor Rob Scott stated that the decision aims to achieve
