Southwest Airlines announces 11 new international routes for 2026-2027

Southwest Airlines has unveiled an expansion of its international network, introducing 11 new routes scheduled to launch between November 2026 and June 2027. The expansion focuses on destinations in Mexico, Costa Rica, and the Caribbean, targeting travelers from several U.S. cities including Austin, Nashville, Las Vegas, Columbus, and Pittsburgh.

Key new services include nonstop flights from Las Vegas to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, starting in November 2026. Other planned routes include connections from Nashville to Liberia, Costa Rica; Aruba; Nassau, Bahamas; and Providenciales, Turks and Caicos. Austin will see new service to San José, Costa Rica, and Nassau, Bahamas, as well as the return of service to Puerto Vallarta.

To support potential long-haul international travel, the airline is reportedly considering the addition of Boeing 787 Dreamliners to its fleet. This expansion coincides with a broader strategic move toward premium amenities, such as upgraded onboard seating and the development of airport lounges.
