Southwest Airlines to launch first airport lounge network in 2027
Southwest Airlines has announced its first-ever airport lounge network, marking a strategic shift toward premium services. In partnership with Chase, the airline plans to launch its initial four lounges in late 2027 at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu, and Nashville International Airport.
Construction has already begun on these first four locations. The airline intends to expand the network with at least seven additional lounges in high-demand markets over the coming years. The lounges are expected to feature locally inspired dining, sophisticated design, and high-quality amenities, aligning with the standards of the Chase Sapphire Reserve Lounge Network.
To facilitate access, Southwest and Chase will launch a new premium Southwest Rapid Rewards Credit Card in 2027. This co-branded card will serve as the primary gateway for passengers to utilize the new lounge facilities. This move follows recent changes at Southwest, including shifts in seating and baggage policies, as the company seeks to increase profitability and attract higher-spending travelers.
