Southwest Airlines crew hosts mid-flight wedding for couple

A Southwest Airlines crew transformed a routine flight to Las Vegas into an impromptu wedding ceremony for a couple planning to elope. The event took place on August 13 at approximately 35,000 feet.

After flight attendants learned of Sara Arroyo Montalvo and her partner’s plans to marry privately upon arrival, the crew organized a celebration for the 178 passengers on board. The aircraft’s captain, who is an ordained minister, officiated the ceremony using the plane’s public-address system.

Crew members used available onboard supplies to create wedding accessories. The bride wore a makeshift veil and dress fashioned from toilet paper, while her bouquet was constructed from coffee stir sticks. Montalvo expressed gratitude to the airline staff for turning a private elopement into a memorable shared experience.
