Southwest German sport championships yield multiple local medals

The regional dog‑sport championships of the Südwestdeutschen Hundesportverband in Ladenburg saw athletes from Mannheim capture six medals, including gold and silver in the sprint four‑hand event. Luca Hannemann earned silver with 280.37 points, while Alex Nicht took gold with 281.62 points. Additional podium finishes were secured by Alicia Batke, Denis Wesel, Fabian Obert and the youth trio Gesa, Lucy and Maxime, who earned bronze as a team. Trainer Sandra Scheben praised the young runners, saying, “Die Mädchen haben das hervorragend gemacht. In so kurzer Zeit als Team zusammenzuwachsen und sich dann bei einer Verbandsmeisterschaft gleich so deutlich zu steigern, ist alles andere als selbstverständlich.”

In parallel, the southwest German Masters athletics championships in Bad Ems produced a four‑gold medal haul for TSV Iggelheim’s Andreas Sundheimer in the M45 age group. He won the 100 m (12.83 s) and 200 m (27.67 s) sprints, the long jump (4.62 m) after a difficult start, and the triple jump (9.28 m). Both events highlighted strong performances by local athletes in regional competitions.
