Southwest Power Pool issues grid advisory during heatwave

The Southwest Power Pool (SPP) has issued a Resource Advisory to monitor potential strain on the electric grid due to a historic heatwave. The advisory, which was put in place on Sunday, August 16, 2026, is expected to remain in effect through at least August 19, 2026.

The advisory serves as a precautionary measure to alert power managers, city officials, and emergency management agencies of increased energy consumption risks. While the United States Department of Energy is monitoring the situation to prevent power outages in Louisiana and 16 other states, the SPP noted that a Resource Advisory is a normal operating condition and does not require the public to take specific conservation actions.
