Southwest US faces life-threatening flash flood threats
Millions of residents across the Southwest United States are facing life-threatening flash flood threats due to heavy rainfall and tropical moisture. Forecasters warn that moisture from the remnants of Odalys and Hurricane Polo is fueling widespread thunderstorms across the region.
In Arizona, flood watches are in effect for much of the state, including Phoenix, Flagstaff, and the Grand Canyon area. Rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches are expected in northern Arizona, while the Sky Islands and White Mountains could see up to 4 inches. Phoenix officials have made free sand available at nine city parks to assist residents with flood preparation.
The threat extends through New Mexico, southern Utah, and southern Colorado, with significant rainfall possible in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and near national parks such as Zion and Bryce Canyon. In Texas, the threat spans from Amarillo and El Paso toward Dallas, where significant flooding is possible later in the week. Some areas may experience 4 to 6 inches of rain between Monday and Wednesday.
