South African police are investigating the discovery of nine women's bodies found in the Ekurhuleni municipality, east of Johannesburg, over the last two months. The recent discovery of a woman's body in a Soweto dam has added to the growing concern regarding gender-based violence in the Gauteng province.

In a significant development, authorities arrested three suspects—one man and two women—in connection with the murder of Jabulile Ntimba in Dawn Park. Investigators are examining whether this specific case was motivated by a “love triangle.”

While the frequency and circumstances of the deaths have fueled public fear of a serial killer, Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia stated that there is currently no conclusive evidence to confirm such a link. A multidisciplinary team, led by senior national police leadership, has been established to strengthen the investigation into these killings.
