Soweto Jabulani Parcel K project hands over first 197 housing units

Human Settlements Minister Thembi Simelane has officially handed over 197 housing units to beneficiaries at the Jabulani Parcel K Mega Project in Soweto. This handover represents the first phase of a larger development intended to eventually provide 704 units. The broader mixed-use initiative is designed to accommodate approximately 2,400 households through various options, including social housing and first-time home financing.

The occupation of these units was previously delayed due to infrastructure challenges, specifically regarding electricity and water connectivity. Departmental policy requires that utilities be fully operational before beneficiaries move in.

Gauteng MEC for Human Settlements Tasneem Motara addressed the beneficiaries, emphasizing the importance of security of tenure. She issued a strict warning that the homes are intended for the designated owners; renting the units to others or attempting to sell them is illegal and could result in the loss of the home.
