Human rights investigations launched in Mexico and Chile
The Human Rights Commission of the State of Mexico (Codhem) has launched an investigation into the Almoloya de Juárez Penitentiary and Reinsertion Social Center following allegations of extortion. Families of inmates report being charged fees for essential services, including access to cells and water, as well as payments to facilitate visits. Some reports suggest families have spent up to 10,000 pesos per month to cover these irregular costs.
In Chile, the Human Rights Group of Maipú has organized a march to commemorate the anniversary of the 1973 military coup. The procession, starting from the Templo Votivo and ending at the Memorial of Disappeared and Politically Executed Persons, aims to demand memory, truth, and justice. The group highlighted that 68 local residents were victims of political execution or forced disappearance during the dictatorship.
